Operation Toofan 2.0
'Operation Toofan 2.0' is a comprehensive public resistance campaign against drugs implemented by the Government of Kerala with the full cooperation of the Local Self Government Department. While the first phase focused heavily on strictly curbing the availability and distribution of drug products, the second phase—'Operation Toofan 2.0'—prioritizes preventing drug use, reducing demand, strengthening awareness campaigns, and ensuring treatment and rehabilitation.
As part of this initiative, Toofan Jana Jagrata Samitis (People's Vigilance Committees) have been formed in all wards of the Aryad Grama Panchayat. This people's collective brings together Kudumbashree members, ASHA workers, Haritha Karma Sena members, residence associations, youth and voluntary organizations, and students. It also incorporates volunteer networks known as 'Toofan Warriors' from the community, and appoints specially trained 'Toofan Mentors' at every police station to assist individuals recovering from substance abuse. Furthermore, special health protocols and counseling sessions are being implemented to provide medical assistance, counseling, and rehabilitation to those affected by addiction.
The role of local self-government institutions such as grama panchayats, municipalities, and corporations is crucial in this battle because they lead the effort to expand the fight against drugs beyond mere police actions down to the grassroots level. The primary objectives of Operation Toofan 2.0 are to create awareness among youth and students about the harmful effects of drugs, prevent the use and distribution of narcotic substances, bring suspicious activities to the attention of authorities, and ensure the cooperation of families and the general public.
With the goal of creating a healthy, safe, and drug-free society, the Aryad Grama Panchayat is actively joining hands with the Government of Kerala's 'Operation Toofan 2.0' initiative.
